MOSES LAKE — Road construction is winding down as summer turns into fall, but some projects are still underway.
Work is continuing on two sections of road in Grant County, and one county project may run into December.
Construction crews are still rebuilding Road H Southeast, off State Route 262 (O’Sullivan Dam Road) near the Mardon Resort. Grant County Engineer Dave Bren said it’s one of two paving projects still underway.
The existing surface is being excavated, the roadbed rebuilt where necessary and the road repaved. The cost is about $2.8 million, with about $2.5 million from a federal grant. Bren said in an earlier interview the road provides north-south access to Othello and Royal City and has enough traffic to qualify it for federal road improvement funds.
Road G.7 Northwest, south of Quincy, is closed to through traffic while it’s being paved. Previously it was a gravel road; it connects Road H Northwest to White Trail Road. Crews are grading the existing road, adding more base material if necessary, then adding two layers of rock and oil. Estimated cost is about $400,000.
“Those are the end-of-summer, early-autumn projects,” Bren said.
Adams County officials are reviewing bids on a proposal to repave a section of the Lind-Hatton Road. Bids were opened Wednesday.
Adams County Engineer Scott Yaeger said the section is about five miles north of State Route 26 between a section of South Damon Road and Phillips Road to the BNSF railroad crossing. About 2.98 miles will be paved, with construction beginning about Oct. 14 if a bid is accepted.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway
EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
Ybarra announces run for Washington Senate
QUINCY — State Representative Alex Ybarra, R-Quincy, has announced his candidacy for the Washington Senate. If he’s elected, he would replace Judy Warnick, R-Moses Lake, who announced her retirement in March.
Othello Community Museum to open April 25
OTHELLO — With a couple of new exhibits, a new heating-cooling system, rearranged displays and a thorough cleaning, the Othello Community Museum will open for the summer April 25. The goal, said Molly Popchock, museum board secretary, is to operate for a full season.
