PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint baseball settles for split with Lakeland

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 week, 3 days AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | April 10, 2025 8:30 PM

Lakeland 8, Sandpoint 5

SANDPOINT — Junior Mason Little and senior Drew Lehman both recorded three hits apiece in the opener as the host Bulldogs split their home-opening 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader with the Hawks on Thursday at War Memorial Field.

The Bulldogs got hot early in game one and only needed four innings of batting to induce the run rule. Lehman and Little knocked RBI singles on back-to-back plate appearances in the first. Little then hit another RBI single in the second to cap off a 4-run rally that put Sandpoint up 6-0.

In the third, Little and Lehman hit RBI singles again, as did junior Parker Reichart, and the Bulldogs took a 12-0 lead heading into the fourth. In the fourth, Lehman smashed an RBI double to left and sophomore Carson Resso rounded out the hitting clinic with an RBI single down the third base line for Sandpoint's 14th run of the game.

Junior Dallen Williams was dealing on the mound in the win, giving up just two hits while striking out two batters over four innings of work.

In the nightcap, Sandpoint led 5-4 heading into the final frame, but the Hawks put up a 4-run mark and shutout the Bulldogs in the bottom half of the inning to spoil the sweep.

Junior Sage Medeiros had a sacrifice fly, sophomore Brennan Shaw two singles in game two for Sandpoint (6-10, 5-7), which hosts league-newcomer Lewiston on Saturday for a twinbill.
