SOAP LAKE — An unidentified man was arrested on suspicion of arson Wednesday after allegedly setting fire to clothing that ignited nearby brush.
The fire was reported in the 2200 block of Road 20 Northeast at about 7:45 p.m., according to a post from Grant County Fire District 7.
“The fire originated from a set of coveralls,” the GCFD release said. “Video surveillance from the area confirmed that an individual removed the coveralls and set them on fire. The suspect fled the scene shortly afterward.”
The fire was extinguished by a neighbor before GCFD 7 crews arrived, the release said. Fire crews determined the clothing had been doused with an accelerant, and contacted the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
“While awaiting the arrival of deputies, fire officials observed the suspect departing a nearby residence on a bicycle,” the release said. “Based on the information provided and evidence at the scene, a local law enforcement officer detained the individual a short distance away.”
The person was later arrested by GCSO deputies, it said.
