A Kalispell woman accused of taking a baseball bat to her boyfriend's lover in April pleaded not guilty Thursday to multiple felonies in Flathead County District Court.
Madison Degele, 18, of Kalispell, was arraigned on counts of burglary and criminal mischief before Judge Amy Eddy on July 31. Eddy set a pretrial conference for Dec. 3.
Degele is accused of tracking down the other woman to her Morning View Drive home and breaking in with an accomplice about 10 p.m., April 28. A child in the home phoned 911, telling authorities that an intruder had entered the home and was beating his mother with a bat, court documents said.
The victim showed arriving Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies a string of allegedly threatening text messages she had received from Degele before the attack. The victim had responded by warning Degele to stay away, court documents said.
Deputies questioned Degele's accomplice the following day. He had driven Degele to the Morning View Drive property at her request, he said. Degele, who allegedly brought an aluminum baseball bat with her, had told him to stay in the car. Instead, he had accompanied her inside, court documents said.
Once inside the home, they crossed paths with a woman Degele initially mistook for the victim. Degele shouted "You (expletive)ed my boyfriend" before swinging at her with the bat, court documents alleged. Degele reportedly found the victim and a man in the garage and flung herself at them.
While the man temporarily relieved Degele of the bat, she snatched it back and hit the victim in the arm, court documents said. She was driven off, but smashed the back window of the victim's vehicle with the bat on her way out, court documents alleged.
Investigators interviewed a woman who had been with Degele earlier in the evening of the alleged burglary. She recounted a drunk Degele asking her to drive them to the victim's home "so she could assault her," court documents said.
Authorities also reviewed recorded phone conversations between Degele and her boyfriend, who was in the county jail at the time. During a conversation on April 28, the boyfriend admitted to cheating on Degele with the victim, according to court documents. Degele replied by saying she was "gonna go attack them," court documents said.
During a second conversation between the couple recorded on May 3, Degele allegedly told her boyfriend that she had carried out the plan.
"I (expletive)ed her up good," Degele said, according to court documents.
