Last season: BOYS: second out of two scoring teams in 4A Intermountain district championship, did not make state GIRLS: second out of two scoring teams in 4A Intermountain district championship, seventh at 4A state championship

Coaches: Lyndsay Hart (head coach), Levi Bonnell (assistant coach), Ceci Roemer (volunteer coach)

Key returners: BOYS: Ethan Cowell, sr.; Micah Thomson, sr.; Colton Cohen, sr. GIRLS: Gia Roemer, jr.; Kylie Calderone, so.

Key newcomers: BOYS: Brock Tuma, so.; Jonathan Bollschweiler, fr. GIRLS: Kya Alderman, fr.

Outlook: Running starts by putting one foot in front of the other, gradually increasing the speed until hitting a desired pace. Last season, Bonners Ferry took an important step forward, but the time has come for them to do what they do so well on the course and put their next foot forward.

The Badgers boys set out with more to prove, after missing the 4A state championship meet last season, and they enter the season with a stacked roster. They’ll be led by Ethan Cowell, who's already shown he’s capable of running with the best in the region by taking seventh in Post Falls River Run on Saturday.

A freshman, Jonathan Bollschweiler, was the Badgers’ second-best competitor at the River Run and should be one of Bonners Ferry’s best runners all season. Two more seniors, Micah Thomson and Colton Cohen round out a roster that is filled with strong competitors that can balance out the score sheet.

The girls team snuck into the 4A championship last year with an at-large bid but enter 2025 with a substantially younger and more unproven roster than the boys. With no seniors on the team, they are paced by sophomore Kylie Calderone, who finished fifth in her classification in the River Run.

Head coach Lyndsay Hart said that the key for the girls will be building up the young talent on the roster and relying on Calderone and junior Gia Roemer, who returns to the team after a shoulder injury.

If the Badgers want to knock off Timberlake and win the 4A Intermountain League with both of their teams, there’s work to be done. However, Hart has a plan: slowly build them up and earn new personal records in every meet until the time comes for the district championship on their home turf.

Coach’s comments: "They ran really well this summer, so we are starting out in a better place, I think than we did last year which is exciting.” - Coach Lyndsay Hart

On improving the boys' overall points: “They’re teenagers so they compete with each other, but in order to do what we want to do and get to state, we need a solid, No. 2, 3, 4, 5 runners who can clump up together and score together. I think our freshman boys are really going to help with that.”

On Jonathan Bollschweiler: "I coached the middle school track team, so I had him in the mile, and I was like ‘Oh buddy, you’re coming to high school cross country, right?’” - Coach Lyndsay Hart

Most anticipated meet: Bonners Ferry Invite
