Santa thanked the West End Volunteer Fire Department for the ride to the DeBorgia School as the rain canceled his reindeer flight.

    Santa had fewer children than normal this year at the DeBorgia School Lighting. There were singing cancelations and rain to contend with, so it was a much cozier atmosphere for those families that did participate. (Monte Turner/Mineral Independent)
 
 
    Bob Kortuem recounted the story behind the 80 foot blue spruce now known as the “Cooper Tree” in front of the school.  The famous DeBorgia film makers and joke-filled travelogue speakers, the Cooper brothers, Don and Dennis used to jump over that tree during their school days at the DeBorgia School House around 1945.
