Senior center connects community, seniors

2024 was an adventurous year for the Senior Hospitality Center. The center had several changes in administration and has acquired new board members. “We have a great team to go into 2025 with,” Linda Lederhos, center chief executive director, said.
The center offers a variety of benefits for seniors, including nutritional meals, social activities, events, health and wellness programs, recreational and educational classes, and support groups.
For lunch guests over 60 years of age, the center asks that a $5 donation be given. Those under 60 are required to pay an $8 fee.
While the center receives some money to help pay for the cost of food, much of it comes from its own funds. "We don’t get the food for free, and I think that is a misconception that some people have,” Lederhos said about the meals.
The center serves lunch at noon Monday through Friday. Those who would like to attend are asked to call the center at 209-267-4421 by 10:30 a.m. so that the cook knows how many people to plan for.
All meals are homemade, and a menu is available to view on the center’s Facebook page. A calendar of events and activities can also be found on the Facebook page.
Weekly activities are:
- Pool games every morning at 8 a.m.
- Fit and Fall Proof classes are Monday and Wednesday at 10:45 a.m., as well as Friday at 9:45 a.m.
- Every Friday is live music from Scott Stover and at 1 p.m., pinochle and Mexican Train games take place.
- Bingo is every second and fourth Thursday at 1 p.m. and the third Saturday at 1 p.m.
Volunteers are always welcome to help out in any way, such as teaching classes, leading activities, helping with lunch or any of the many other jobs that they may have a need for. Currently, the center is looking for someone to help with home deliveries.
For those who would like to help the center via donation, donations can be brought in or online here https://bit.ly/4agNghi. The link can also be found on the center’s Facebook page.
The Senior Hospitality Center is also available for event rental.
