The Whitefish girls swim team swam to a second-place team finish at the Missoula Invite on Saturday.
The girls 200 freestyle and 200 medley A relays each placed third, good for 32 points each. The team’s depth showed when the 200 freestyle B team placed fifth, beating out some other school’s top A teams, while the 200 medley B relay placed seventh.
Liesel Klein came away with a gold in the 200 IM and a silver in the 500 freestyle.
Out of eight Class A and AA teams, the girls cumulated 312 points for second place, behind Glacier (451) and ahead of Missoula Sentinel (285).
The boys team, with only four members, placed fifth out of eight teams with 121 total points, just behind Columbia Falls who had 149 points. The Polson boys team topped the field 381 points.
For Whitefish, the boys scored third in the 200 freestyle relay but got handed a disqualification in the 200 medley relay.
Jessup Hutcheson had a standout first place in the 200 individual freestyle and Gavin Sibson also came away with a win in the 100 freestyle.
Up next for the swim team is a Kalispell invite at The Summit on Saturday, Jan. 25, followed by another meet in Missoula on Feb. 1.
Swim team fans can look forward to the Dog-Cat invite at The Wave on Feb. 7 at 6 p.m.
Both Whitefish and Columbia Falls teams practice at The Wave, so it’ll be a split battle in the home pool to conclude the regular season before the All-Class State Meet on Feb. 13-15.
