PREP ROUNDUP: Lady Cats claw their way to big senior night win
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 13 hours, 2 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 29, 2025 9:45 PM
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Clark Fork 45, Kellogg JV 30
CLARK FORK — Senior Hannah Thompson poured in 25 points, 16 in the second half, and the host Lady Cats used a 14-7 third quarter advantage to pull away and defeat the Lady Wildcats' JV on Wednesday.
Junior Kathi Rupp, who was also honored on Clark Fork's senior night due to being an exchange student from Germany, added six points and a game-high 18 rebounds. Thompson, in addition to her 25 points, also recorded a team-high three assists and four steals.
"They were great tonight," Clark Fork High head coach Chris Cavanaugh said about his seniors. "It can be an emotional night for all of them, especially when you do senior celebrations right before tip-off. They were fired up at the beginning but calmed down and made some great passes and smart decisions with the ball. It was nice to see us pull away after halftime."
Freshman Keira Gannon scored eight points, including two 3-pointers, and blocked a pair of shots while freshman Azelynn Petersen chipped in six points for Clark Fork, which led 17-12 at halftime.
Seniors Jamie Herrick and Aliyah Leadbetter were also honored on the night for their contributions to the team over the years.
Clark Fork (5-11, 0-5) travels to Kootenai today for another non-league matchup.
