A Kalispell man accused of causing a motor vehicle wreck while fleeing deputies earlier this month faces multiple charges in Flathead County District Court.  

Prosecutors filed felony counts of criminal endangerment and negligent vehicular assault as well as misdemeanor fleeing from a peace officer and driving with a suspended or revoked license against 18-year-old Sevin Colin Kawulok following the July 13 wreck. Held in the county jail with bail set at $40,000, he is expected to appear before Judge Amy Eddy on July 30 for his arraignment.  

Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies began pursuing Kawulok about 12:23 a.m. after spotting him driving in a gold Chrysler Town and Country minivan along Kuhns Road at about double the posted speed limit of 35 mph, according to court documents. Following him onto Spring Prairie Road, the deputies hit their siren and lights near the intersection with Sunset Prairie Road.  

Kawulok ignored the lights and later roared through the intersection with K M Ranch Road, attempting to turn southbound, court documents said. Instead, he struck a Ford pickup truck and came to a stop.  

Approaching the vehicle, deputies found Kawulok sitting behind the wheel with bloodshot eyes and dilated pupils, according to court documents. During the ensuing conversation, Kawulok allegedly admitted to using methamphetamine and attempting to outrun deputies.  

Deputies also learned that Kawulok lacked a valid driver's license, court documents said.  

Of the two passengers riding with Kawulok, one complained of foot and back pain following the collision. Officials later learned she suffered a broken foot in the crash.  

The man behind the wheel of the Ford pickup told investigators that Kawulok's driving struck fear in him. He tried to pull off the road to avoid a collision, but to no avail, he said. 

Criminal endangerment is punishable by up to 10 years in Montana State Prison and a $40,000 fine while negligent vehicular assault carries a maximum penalty of 10 years behind bars and a $10,000 fine. The latter charge also comes with the possibility of restitution.  

Misdemeanor fleeing from a peace officer is punishable by up to one year behind bars and a $2,000 fine. Driving with a suspended or revoked license carries a penalty of between two days and six months imprisonment and a fine of up to $2,000.
