Whitefish golf headed to state tournament in Sidney

Several Whitefish golf players qualified for the Class A Montana State Tournament.
The girls team secured a second-place finish at Western A Divisionals in Hamilton on Sept. 26 to qualify. The boys finished fifth, missing a state qualifying spot by just one stroke, but will send three individuals to Sidney.
The girls made a valiant effort, vying for a state title, and took second, just five strokes behind Hamilton, 372 to 377. Dillon was third with 386 followed by Frenchtown at 431 and Polson with 433.
Whitefish’s Rhylee Scott earned a solo second place, shooting an 83 to finish behind Hamilton’s first place finisher Cameron Burnett with 76. Caroline Owens was sixth and Karlee Brown was seventh. Ava Zignego finished in 13th and Baylee Hyland in 33rd.
Aiden Rickels led the scoring for the Bulldogs with a seventh-place finish, shooting a 79. Four other players also shot a 79, making for a five-way seventh place tie.
Whitefish’s Finn Hobart finished 16th and Colby Minton finished 21st. Rickels, Hobart and Minton qualified for the state tournament.
Mason O’Neil was 29th and Ashton Taylor was 39th.
Corvallis took the team title with 296, Frenchtown was second with 323, followed by Polson, 329, Dillon, 331, Whitefish, 332, and Butte Central, 335.
Golf's state tournament is in Sidney on Oct. 3 and 4.
