Northside Fire District Override Levy

The Northside Fire District is seeking a permanent levy override request, which would nearly double the district's budget to around $1.2 million.

Based on current market conditions, the increase would see the levy rate jump from $20.80 per $100,000 of assessed value to $41 per year.

The district said that the proposed levy will allow it to maintain the current staffing level, which it cannot do with the current funding. The funds would be used for staffing of three firefighters per day, a continuation of the Fire Chief and Fire Administrator agreement between the district and Selkirk Fire Rescue and maintenance of equipment.

The district said that the funding will not go toward the hiring of additional paid staff or apparatus. The district sought a similar levy in the spring election, but it did not pass. The levy needs a two-third majority to pass.
