Soroptimist event prepares girls to dream it, be it

Soroptimist International of Whitefish is hosting a three-day event for high school girls called “Dream It, Be It,” that aims to grow their confidence and help prepare them to be empowered women.
The curriculum provided by Soroptimist International has a theme of “live your dream.” The program encourages empowerment through education and goal-setting, and also tackles tough real-world topics like teen dating, abuse and how to handle stress, all with the goal of helping girls reach their full potential in their future careers and personal lives.
Nearly 24,000 girls from 15 different countries and territories across the world participated in the 2023-2024 “Dream It, Be It.” Last year’s conference reported that 92% of participants better understand how their values connect to possible careers, and 90% felt more confident about their future success.
Ellen Plantz with Whitefish Soroptimist is organizing the event. She hopes to see a big turnout from the valley.
Plantz said that on top of the internationally developed curriculum, the event will teach girls how to create their own support systems in their own lives and will offer local connections and resources for them.
“We’re not telling them what to do, but offering them tools and skills that they can use to enrich their lives, and develop leadership skills,” Plantz said.
Throughout the three days, there will be a variety of discussion and hands-on activities, Plantz said. She also looks forward to sharing information about Soroptimist's scholarship opportunities as well.
The first session is Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It is followed by two Thursday sessions, Nov. 6 and Nov. 13, both from 4 to 7 p.m. All sessions are at the Whitefish Community Library. There is an award grant to be distributed amongst participants who complete the program.
Girls can apply to attend online by Oct. 29 at soroptimistwhitefish.org/dibi-application/
