The Whitefish Bulldogs are feeling confident after a balanced attack against Libby, coming away with a 48-21 victory Friday.
Sophomore Luke Dalen had a solid performance on all fronts, accounting for six out of seven touchdowns for the night. On the ground, he rushed for 95 yards on 12 carries, which included four touchdown runs from 2, 7, 22 and 3 yards out. In the air, he completed 14 out of 21 passes for 159 yards, connecting with Aaron Anderson for two more touchdowns, from 4 and 16 yards.
Anderson had a standout performance all around as well. He totaled 5 receptions for 52 yards and filled in as kicker for the night, successful on six out of seven PATs.
“Aaron’s an athlete – he does a lot of things well,” Whitefish Coach Brett Bollweg said. “It’s fun to see the kids reap the rewards of their work.”
Jordan Harmon added another 14-yard touchdown run and totaled 24 rushing yards.
Cole Moses led several offensive attacks, racking up 105 yards on 21 carries. Colt Moss also added 32 yards on 4 carries. On the receiving end, Vlad Shestak was a top target for the night, catching 5 passes for 100 yards.
The Bulldogs had built a 27-0 lead at the half, but Libby put up a good fight in the backend. Logger Tristan Anderson threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Bob Miles and had a 53-yard scoring run, followed by another long 74-yard touchdown pass.
The Bulldogs are now 5-2 overall, 3-1 in Northwest A, while the Loggers are 4-3, 2-2. Columbia Falls leads the league at 4-0, and Bigfork comes in even with Whitefish at 3-1.
Friday will be a test for the Dogs and the Bigfork Vikings in what will be the final game of regular season play.
“Bigfork always poses a good challenge with how they run the ball,” Bollweg said. “We need to make sure we’re ready. Our coaches have put together a good game plan – hopefully we’re successful.”
Monday saw the end of the junior varsity season, marking a shift toward postseason – always a bittersweet time, Bollweg said.
“A lot of successful growth from them,” he said of the JV squad. “The state of the program is in a good spot. There’s things to look forward to.”
