WALLACE — The Friends of the Coeur d’Alene Trails Association wrapped up the 2025 biking season by donating $500 each to five local organizations that support communities along the region’s trail systems. 

The recipients include the Wallace Food Bank, Shoshone County Food Bank, Mullan Community Foundation, Silver Valley Meals on Wheels and the St. Maries Food Bank. 

Rick Shaffer, Trails Association representative, said the donations reflect the group’s commitment to the communities that help sustain and enhance the trail experience. 

“These trails bring people from all over the world to our region, and it’s important we give back to the communities that make that possible,” Shaffer said. 

The nonprofit Friends of the Coeur d’Alene Trails Association has promoted the biking and trekking trails of North Idaho, Western Montana and Eastern Washington for more than 25 years. The group has distributed more than 55,000 free trail maps highlighting routes such as the Route of the Hiawatha, Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, Northern Pacific and Milwaukee Road Rail-Trails, the Olympian-Hiawatha, and the North Idaho and Spokane Centennial Trails. 

In addition to outreach, the group has donated bike repair stations to several trails.
