The Whitefish golf teams started the season strong and are only getting better, with the Bigfork Tournament Thursday, Sept. 4 yielding the best results of the season for both varsity boys and girls. The girls took yet another team title and the boys were second, their highest placing this year.

Karlee Brown had a dominant first place individual finish in 78, six over par. Bigfork’s Keegan Campbell was second, eight strokes behind in 86. The Lady Dogs’ victory was boosted by Rhylee Scott (90) in fourth place and Caroline Owens (100) in tenth.

Leading the way for the boys was Aiden Rickels (74), tying for second and losing only to Polson’s Max Milton.

Bulldogs Colby Minton (76) and Finn Hobart (77) came in fifth and eighth, respectively.

As a team, the boys' effort came to 313, placing second out of 13 teams behind first place Polson (303) and ahead of Corvallis (316) and Columbia Falls (336).

The day prior, Whitefish Lake Golf Club hosted the Whitefish Invite. Many of the same  schools competed at both Whitefish and Bigfork.

The girls team notched a team victory on their home course, ahead of second place Hamilton by 28 strokes.

Brown was first at 82 followed by Cameron Burnett of Hamilton at 83. Bulldogs Rhylee Scott and Ava Zignego were third (87) and sixth (99), respectively. Caroline Owens tied for 11th with 105.

The boys had a tougher go of it, placing fifth out of seven teams. Rickels (79) and Finn Hobart (82) were in the top 15, placing fifth and 13th. Both then showed a great improvement at Bigfork the next day.

“We look to continue building off the momentum created at the Bigfork tourney as we begin to fine tune the rosters for divisionals and state tournaments over the next few weeks,” said head coach Scott Minton.

“I am encouraged by the play on both the boys and girls teams and expect both them to finish high in the remaining tournaments.”

The season is heating up and this week’s schedule is loaded – the Bulldogs are taking on four tournaments in a five-day stretch. Whitefish teams will be competing in Polson, Libby, Eureka and Kalispell.
