CityServiceValcon has been a cornerstone of energy distribution in Montana for more than 90 years. Founded in 1932 and headquartered in Kalispell, the company has grown from a local fuel supplier into a full-service energy provider serving customers across Montana, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and Wyoming.

Its offerings include propane, bulk and ground fuels, aviation fuels, lubricants and fuel card programs.

CSV will now serve the Superior community directly, building on a long-standing relationship with Mineral Energy Company, a trusted local business founded by Scott Dodd and Kerby Smith.

Mineral Energy Company earned a strong reputation for personal service and customer care, serving homeowners, farmers, aviation operators and commercial fleets. That relationship began in 2018, when Mineral Energy Company was getting started.

CityServiceValcon provided the infrastructure needed to launch the business by leasing propane tanks, allowing Mineral Energy Company to serve customers without a major upfront investment. This partnership continued for seven years.

In October 2025, the businesses formally separated as CityServiceValcon acquired the propane side of Mineral Energy Company. Because CityServiceValcon had already been supplying equipment and support, the transition allowed for continuity of service in the region.

As part of that change, the two businesses took on distinct roles.

CityServiceValcon now manages propane service, while Scott Dodd continues operating a separate business, Havac Heating & Cooling, which focuses on HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) services. Havac remains at the original River Street location, while CityServiceValcon moved to the old Superior School building to help reduce confusion for customers. Although the businesses still work cooperatively, they are now fully separate.

Local employees Kerra Blanco and her husband, Tyrell Blanco, help lead CityServiceValcon's day-to-day operations in Superior. Kerra manages the office, while Tyrell handles propane tank installation and customer service across a wide service area, from Missoula to Saltese along I-90, as well as Thompson Falls and the Lolo area via Petty Creek Road.

Both were previously employees of Mineral Energy and continued on with CityServiceValcon after the transition.

Tyrell says he appreciates the autonomy in his role.

“One of the biggest differences is that the bosses are not here on site every day. They trust us to do the job,” he said. “The decision-making process rests on my shoulders, which I like.”

Community involvement remains a priority for the team. CityServiceValcon employees volunteer locally, serve on boards, and support youth activities. Recently, the company helped fund the Superior High School play Goldilocks on Trial.

“We like to support projects that don’t always get a lot of attention,” Kerra said.

To celebrate its new location, CityServiceValcon is offering promotions for new and some existing customers, including a discount on the first invoice and a first-year propane tank lease for $1. Standard annual tank leases, such as $125 for a 500-gallon tank, will apply after the introductory period.

CityServiceValcon continues to grow alongside an evolving energy landscape, investing in technology to improve delivery tracking, inventory management, and customer response times. The company has also expanded its reach through strategic acquisitions like Mineral Energy Company.

In recent years, CityServiceValcon became part of the NorthStar Energy family of companies. In 2025, it also combined operations with Coleman Oil Company, another NorthStar brand. Together, these partnerships provide expanded resources and regional coverage while maintaining the local service and relationships customers rely on.

CityServiceValcon is located at 113 River St., with online service at cityservicevalcon.com. The office number is 406-213-9920.
