Track and field got underway last week. With many students not logging enough practice, the local teams brought small squads to Corvallis for the Blue Devil Invitational. Here’s a look at the varsity results and at how Polson, Ronan and Charlo did down in Ravalli County.

Polson sees multiple champs

The Pirates featured some signature top-six finishes this past weekend at the varsity level.

On the track for the girls, senior Kellyn Nelson earned fifth in the 200-meter. Junior Ravea Tenas also earned a finish, this time on the podium with a third-place finish in the 400-meter.

Junior Morgan Delaney took a decisive victory in the 1600-meter as teammate and sophomore Kimora Scott earned third place. Delaney finished over 30 seconds ahead of the next highest finisher in that event.

Delaney and freshman Quinn Delaney finished first and second, respectively, in the 3200-meter as well.

In the hurdles, freshman Olivia Cottet earned fifth place with a personal best in the 300-meter hurdles, finishing fifth.

The 4x100 meter relay saw Nelson, Keira Owen, Rosie Lies and Amelia Stene place fourth as a team. In the 4x400 meter relay, Nelson, Owen, Stene and Quinn Delaney finished in second as a team.

Over to the field events for the girls, sophomore Piper Adams finished fourth in shotput with a personal best 34-11.00.

Cottet earned fifth place in the varsity with another personal best in the discus.

Owen got a season best 31-09.50 in the triple jump to sit at fourth on the day.

In the boys track events, junior Jackson Bontadelli had a personal best finish in the 800-meters to take gold in the finals of this meet. Junior Hayden Ricks finished in sixth in that event as well.

Senior David DiGiallonardo cleaned up the 3200-meter with a personal best finish. He finished almost 40 seconds ahead of second place at this event.

To round out the track events, Ricks, DiGiallonardo, Kelby DuMont and Dion Lichtenberg finished second in the 4x400 meter relay.

In field events, senior Jack Sherry finished with a personal best 48-6.00 in the shot put to take second place.

Lichtenberg won the javelin with a throw of 152-06, notching a new personal best for the senior.

Junior Isaac Kinnick finished second in the pole vault with a jump of 12-06.00, rounding out all the top six finishers for Polson.

Ronan starts season with podium finishes

The Warriors and Maidens also earned some impressive results in the opener. Starting with girls track, senior Antoinette Adams snagged a third-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles.

Adams was the only varsity girl to finish in the top six in either track or field events at the Blue Devil Meet.

On the boys side, junior William Normandeau earned a personal best in the 400-meter to earn a third-place finish.

Senior Devon BigMedicine snagged sixth-place finishes in the 1600-meter and in the 3200-meter as the only other Ronan boy who finished in the top six of the track events.

Sophomore Mason Higgins got fourth place with a personal best of 139-05 in the javelin. He was the only Ronan boy to finish in the top six in any field event at this meet.

Charlo stuns with multiple top-six finishes

Rounding out the Lake County schools, Charlo had a solid weekend that saw the Vikings competing with some top Class A and B schools.

The girls track squad saw freshman Brook Cahoon and senior Madison Harris earn fourth and sixth place, respectively, in the 300-meter hurdles. They were the only Charlo girls to finish in the top six in a varsity track event.

On to girls field events, junior Olivia Carnell earned sixth place in shot put.

Cahoon had a personal best 5-02.00 in the high jump to earn first place.

Carnell and junior GG Hawk both showed up in pole vault with fourth and fifth place showings in the finals. Hawk also nabbed a second-place finish in the triple jump with a personal best 32-04.00.

For the boys track events, the only top-six finishers for Charlo were Colter Roylance, Dalton Carey, Kenyan Dumont and Tasker Brown in the 4x400 meter relay.

To round out all placers, senior Karson Cox took home second place in the javelin with a personal best 150-01. He was the only Charlo boy to place in the top six in any field events at this meet.

Polson, Ronan fight on in baseball opening weekend

It was a short opening weekend for the Lake County baseball teams, with just two games played across all three teams. Even with two losses and one win to start the year, each team is figuring out how to rally early before getting too deep into the season.
