A man accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in Lawrence Park in Kalispell in 2018 later received a 10-year prison sentence.
Prosecutors initially brought Michael Lee Storfa Jr., 30, up on one count of felony sexual assault in 2020, but it would be another three years before he landed in Flathead County District Court. Appearing before Judge Amy Eddy in January 2024, Storfa pleaded not guilty to the felony charge.
Detectives in September of that year spoke again with the victim, who provided additional details about her interactions with Storfa, according to court documents. Prosecutors subsequently amended the charges against Storfa to two counts of sexual intercourse without consent.
Storfa took a plea deal that December. In exchange for an Alford plea to one count of sexual intercourse without consent, prosecutors agreed to recommend he receive a 10-year stint in Montana State Prison at sentencing. The deal stipulated that Storfa undergo the educational, cognitive and behavioral phases of a sexual offender program before being released from custody.
In an Alford plea, a defendant maintains their innocence but acknowledges they likely would be found guilty at trial.
Eddy stuck to the terms of the deal at Storfa's Jan. 23, 2025, sentencing. In addition to the 10-year sentence, she gave Storfa credit for 402 days of time served and ordered him designated as a level one sex offender.
Storfa remains in the Dawson County Correctional Facility in Glendive.
Kalispell Police began investigating Storfa after his victim came forward in January 2019, according to court documents. She said Storfa provided her with alcohol and groped her genitals while the pair were at the park in February 2018.
Telling him she was uncomfortable, the two later drove around in his truck, court documents said. He tried to grope her a second time while they sat at an intersection, she said.
Storfa allegedly admitted the assault during a subsequent three-way call with his brother and sister and provided additional details, including that he penetrated the victim with his finger. The victim confirmed that account during the follow-up interview with detectives in 2024, leading to the amended charges.
