POST FALLS — Families across Post Falls enjoyed a free, public egg hunt hosted by the city and in Q’emiln Park on Saturday.
Kids of all ages stood out in the sunny and warm weather ready to dash into the field and collect as many eggs as they could.
Prizes included many small pieces of candy and, for those lucky enough to find them, a golden ticket, which could be redeemed for a large bag of kettle corn.
“It’s a great community event that is easy for us to get together and run,” said Hayle Carver, an outreach specialist for the city.
City employees spent hours in the days before the event separating, filling and resealing over 20,000 eggs.
“Seeing the joy on kids’ faces warms people’s hearts,” said Ka-mee-lin Camp Director Craig Chambers, “It brings you back to when you were a kid.”
Parents expressed thankfulness for the yearly event, which was sponsored by Golden West Credit Union this year.
“We’ve been going out here since they started,” said Shawn Walton, whose son participated in the event, “The kids love it, so me make a point to come out.”
Hundreds of young children, parents and grandparents made their way to the event while sharing photos, having a laugh and watching their kids play in the sun.
“I like the sense of community,” said Grace West, “There is not much to do until Spring, so it feels like the kickoff for the season.”
“Seeing the Easter Bunny” and “Seeing my friends” were some kids' favorite parts of the event. While others looked forward to opening eggs the most. When asked what their favorite candies were, kids answered, “Skittles”, “Hi-Chews”, “Smarties” and “Nerds”.
Even the parents were excited for the buckets of sweets.
“My favorite candy is whatever candy they bring home,” said Jessica Ravetto, a mother who brought her daughter to the event.
