COEUR d’ALENE — The dining room at North Star Senior Living burst into color on Saturday afternoon as residents dressed in their best floral prints, walked, strolled and danced their way down the runway of the "Spring is Busting Out" fashion show.
The event had everyone smiling, clapping and showing that people can strut their stuff into their later years.
“It's a wonderful thing because we are all in our 80’s,” said Patty Piper, the organizer for the event.
A little over a dozen residents took part, celebrating comfort, joy and community. A live piano performance filled the room with excitement.
One of the eldest residents was proud to take part in the event.
"We appreciate each other, and we support each other, it's fun,” said Jim Stephens, who donned several looks at this year's event.
Stephens is a 100-year-old veteran who came to Coeur d’Alene after boot camp at the Farragut Naval Training Station.
After the initial show last year, many residents were happy to see its return. Organizers saw several new faces in the crowd, along with many residents’ families.
“We had lots of fun last year. It's so fun to see everybody and is a wonderful opportunity to show people’s talent.” said Kay Zaike.
The fashion show is just a part of the active community at North Star. From Christmas caroling to protesting, the residents feel they need to stick together.
“I love to do it. This is our home, this is our family," Piper said.
The residents of North Star proved that style has no expiration date and that a little color and confidence can create a lively, fun community.
