MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man was arrested Friday for child molestation, according to a statement from the Moses Lake Police Department.

Jaime Mendez Madrigal, 39, was booked into Grant County Jail on two counts of third-degree child molestation, according to the statement.

On July 1, MLPD officers received a report that a 15-year-old had been sexually molested while swimming near the Alder Street Fill, according to the statement. MLPD detectives followed up on the report and identified the suspect as Mendez Madrigal.

On Friday, Mendez Madrigal agreed to meet with what he thought was the victim, but was actually MLPD detectives, at 3 p.m. at Neppel Park. When Mendez Madrigal arrived, officers took him into custody.

No bail had been set Tuesday for Mendez Madrigal, according to the Grant County Jail roster. In addition to the molestation charge, detectives are requesting a charge of communication with a minor for immoral purposes, according to the MLPD statement.
