Resources from the Skillet Fire were pulled to support nearby Adams and Trixie fires west of Whitefish after thunderstorms rolled through last weekend.  

Flathead National Forest reported six new fire starts from lightning over the weekend.  

The Adams Fire west of Lower Stillwater Lake is 11 acres. The fire is burning in heavy timber and blowdown on Adams Mountain in the Good Creek drainage. Excavators and dozers are constructing mechanical fireline, followed by crews and a hose lay to cool the edges. There is water support from a type 1 helicopter.  

The nearby Trixie Fire was mopped up, patrolled and contained at 0.3 acres on Monday. Resources from the Skillet Fire continued to keep these two fires in check on Tuesday.  

Mopping-up involves fully extinguishing any remaining hot or smoldering spots along the fire’s edge to ensure the fire does not re-ignite unburned fuels beyond the fire line. 

Other new starts -- the Russky, Meadow and Lupine Fires -- all remained under an acre and are contained. 

The Skillet Fire remains 82% contained. The 3,384-acre fire west of Olney continues to smolder on its interior but has minimal new activity.  

The Camp Creek Fire on the Spotted Bear Ranger District in the Bob Marshall Wilderness quickly swelled to 6,436 acres over the weekend. It is located northeast of Jumbo Lookout above the Danaher drainage. Smokejumpers and local firefighters were inserted for initial attack and were joined by ground crews. 

Fire activity is minimal on the other Bob Marshall Wilderness Fire. The Silvertip fire is reported at 6,847 acres. 

The Deer Creek Fire northeast of Happy's Inn is 963 acres and 0% contained. The fire was first reported Aug. 20 and started in an active timber sale. The cause is unknown.  

A Type 3 incident management team took command of the fire Sunday. Much of the existing fire line has hose lays already. With 176 personnel, crews continue to construct and secure fire line, focusing on the steep ridge on the southeastern corner and mopping up the lower northern and eastern areas.
