WALLACE – Crews with the U.S. Forest Service are battling a wildfire burning in a remote area just west of Dobson Pass in Shoshone County. 

The Dudley Fire, which began Wednesday, has grown to an estimated 150 acres with no estimated containment as of Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Forest Service. 

Officials said firefighters responded aggressively during the initial hours of the fire, deploying several aircraft to drop water and fire retardant on the blaze in an effort to slow its spread and support crews on the ground. 

The Forest Service currently has three 20-person hand crews assigned to the fire. Those crews are working to establish a defensible perimeter around the fire and are being supported by several engines and pieces of heavy equipment. According to officials, crews are making "good progress" in their efforts to contain the fire and strengthen fire lines around the affected area. 

The fire is located about one mile west of Dobson Pass near Forest Road 429. Officials said the wildfire is burning in a remote portion of Shoshone County, helping limit the number of structures potentially affected. 

According to Shoshone County Sheriff Shawn Wehr, only one residence is even remotely threatened by the fire at this time. Wehr said the resident has already been made aware of the situation. 

No evacuation orders have been issued. 

The cause of the fire remains unknown. 

The Forest Service said it will continue providing updates through its social media channels, typically around 7 p.m. each day. The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office will also continue monitoring the fire and providing updates as conditions change.
