A new 56,000-square-foot Super 1 Foods store is being built at Highway 41 and Prairie Avenue in Post Falls. The groundbreaking is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.
"It'll have a larger deli, produce department and a much larger natural food section than our other stores," said co-owner Randy McIntire. "We chose the location off Highway 41 and Prairie because it's kind of the center of where the growth is expected to be — the center of population for the county."
McIntire said it's the first store he and his dad, Ron, have built since 2020.
"It was up in Oldtown," he said. "It and the Athol store were the last two built."
The store off Highway 41 will be the 17th Super 1 Foods store in the McIntire's portfolio. It will give them nine stores in Idaho and eight in Montana. The first one was built in Hayden in 1970. The Coeur d'Alene store was built in 1985.
Super 1 Foods also has stores in Post Falls, Rathdrum, Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry.
McIntire said he's excited about the newest location.
"It's been a while since we've had a new store, and it will be really nice to have it in that marketplace," he said.
Plans for future expansion, McIntire said, are not out of the question.
Construction on the new store is expected to be completed in late fall 2027.
