With just weeks to go before the state wrestling tournament, multiple wrestlers from across Lake County took home medals as they vie for a spot on the podium. Here’s a check on the best of Lake County wrestling.
Lake County teams dominate Mission Mountain Classic
Calling this tournament a success for Lake County would be an understatement. It was dominance across the board for the Mission/Charlo and Arlee wrestling teams in St. Ignatius last weekend.
Mission/Charlo boys had nine of their 11 wrestlers finish in the top five.
The single champion among them was Dakota Zeiler, who finished first in the 157 weight class.
There were two second-place finishers in Donovan Daniels and Remington Wilson. Daniels was runner-up in the 190 weight class and Wilson finished second in the 103/110 weight class.
Joseph Cronk was the Bulldogs’ only third-place finisher, earning that honor in the 126 weight class.
Kruger Pierce and Lavonntae Morigeau finished up the tournament in fourth place. Pierce claimed fourth in the 165 weight class and Morigeau placed in the 144 weight class.
The last three finishers were Davidson Strysko, Hank Zeiler and Thunder Weaselhead, who each took fifth in their weight divisions. Strysko earned fifth in the 150 weight class, Zeiler in the 118 weight classand Weaselhead in the 285 weight class.
Arlee tallied one podium finisher with Grady O’Connor, who locked down third place in the 175-pound weight class.
For the girls, all four wrestlers between Arlee and Mission/Charlo earned some hardware.
Arlee’s only listed participant, Ella Knoll, took second in the 145 weight class. Her opponent, Anna Cronk of Mission/Charlo, ended up winning first.
Cronk flew past the competition, not dropping a single point in her two bracket matches. This first-place victory was a standout for one of Mission/Charlo’s top wrestlers.
She wasn’t the only Lady Bulldog who took to the podium as her teammate, Olivia Carnell, won the 170 weight class. Carnell also swept her weight class by not dropping a point against the competition.
Meadow Ragen was the final finisher for Mission/Charlo, where she earned second in the 155-pound weight class.
The Mission/Charlo boys finished that tournament in second and the girls finished third. The Arlee girls tied for eighth and the boys finished 10th.
Polson, Ronan see wins in stacked Class A Duals
Both Polson and Ronan took on the Class A Duals in Butte, where both posted team wins throughout the weekend.
Polson won against Bigfork in their pool before losing out to Hardin. Ronan beat out Hamilton and Whitefish before falling to Three Forks/Ennis in their pool.
Polson also saw two team victories in the consolation pool, where they beat out East Helena and Browning.
Ronan suffered a tough first-round loss to Libby/Troy in the championship bracket before losing to Custer County on the loser’s side of the bracket.
