WALLACE — Despite a noticeable lack of the main ingredient, Ski Wallace’s 2026 Extreme Skijor is still on schedule for Presidents’ Day weekend. 

The annual event features skiers and snowboarders pulled behind ATVs as they race down Cedar Street, complete with jumps and obstacles to navigate — or, in some very entertaining cases, fail to navigate. 

Ski Wallace Director Siobhan Curet isn’t fretting about the lack of snow, either on the ground or in the upcoming forecast, although she is asking for a few snow-friendly prayers. 

“I’m not overly concerned yet,” Curet said. “We still have quite a bit of snow in piles.” 

Every winter, as snow begins to fall, the city plows, collects and stockpiles it throughout town. Just before the event, crews truck it back to Cedar Street and begin building the course. 

While the weather forecast over the next week doesn’t look especially promising, Curet said her team always has backup plans if Mother Nature refuses to cooperate. 

“There are a few piles across town that we can pull from,” she said. “We could shorten up the track or narrow it up a bit.” 

The mission of Ski Wallace is to bring sports enthusiasts and tourists to town by promoting winter recreation and events. Each year, the Extreme Skijor draws thousands to the Silver Valley. 

In addition to supercharged skiing and snowboarding, the weekend will include activities for spectators and families, including free carnival games. Downtown businesses and restaurants will be offering special skijor deals. 

This year, Curet has more than $10,000 in prize money to award to the biggest winners — and sometimes the biggest losers — across the competitions. 

If it’s hard to picture how it all comes together, Curet has a simple explanation. 

“Streets become jumps. Brick buildings become the backdrop. The vibes? Absolutely unhinged, in the best way,” she said. 

Ski Wallace’s Extreme Skijor kicks off Friday, Feb. 13, and runs through Feb. 15.
