It was a tougher week for the Lake County Class B teams, although the Mission girls continue to dominate.
Mission Girls 86, Troy Girls 43
Mission had only two games this week with the girls and boys facing off against Troy on Feb. 7.
And, much like how they’ve handled opponents all season, the girls come out firing. A 26-point first quarter wasn’t even the highlight as the Lady Bulldogs scored 31 in the second quarter. It was a 57-22 going into halftime and that was plenty to keep the Lady Trojans down.
The Lady Bulldogs pulled together one of their more dominant wins of the year with the 86-43 victory.
Cora Matt led the team in scoring with 25 points, getting over the mark of 900 career points in her varsity career. Kieran Incashola followed up with 20 points of her own.
This win keeps Mission firmly in first place of 7B. Mission has a 5-0 district record with a 13-1 overall record.
Troy Boys 69, Mission Boys 42
The Mission boys played a tough one against Troy too on Feb. 7, losing out as they try to find wins to close the season.
Mission has struggled at times to stay consistent while scoring. This game was one of those times as the Bulldogs only managed three points in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Troy scored well, making back-to-back 17-point quarters in the first half.
This scoring and Mission’s offensive struggles led to the Trojans winning 69-42 and splitting the season series.
This loss puts Mission at 4-1 in their district and in second place in 7B.
Missoula Loyola Girls 79, Arlee Girls 17
The Arlee girls suffered some tough losses this week with their first coming on Feb. 6 against Missoula Loyola.
The Breakers are one of the best teams in Class B and they showed it. Arlee failed to score double-digits in any quarter while allowing a combined 57 points in the first. Going into the second half with a 57-10 lead, the Breakers didn’t need to do much to secure the win.
The Scarlets lost out 79-17.
Justine Shelby led the team in scoring with five points.
Arlee Boys 70, Missoula Loyola Boys 64
In one of the biggest upsets of the year, Arlee invited the reigning Class B champions Missoula Loyola to town.
For Arlee, it was going to be a matter of offense. Against a dynamic offensive team like the Rams, the Warriors need the most from their best scorers. Arlee stepped up and played unreal basketball.
Against a team that matches up well with the rest of the class, the Warriors found the momentum needed to take down a team coming off its first loss of the season just a day prior.
Arlee took the victory 70-64.
Florence Girls 70, Arlee Girls 7
In another tough game on Feb. 7, the Scarlets took on Florence.
The Scarlets only managed to score five points against Florence in their first matchup and the same was nearly true here. Arlee couldn’t score until the second quarter, while the Lady Falcons scored 34 points in the first quarter.
It was 53-5 after halftime and the Scarlets were too far down to make any comeback. Arlee only scored two points for the rest of the game as Florence won 70-7.
Justine Shelby, Kaylee Turner and Jaydessa Haynes were the only scorers for the Scarlets.
The two losses this week will keep Arlee at sixth in 6B with a 1-6 record.
Florence Boys 60, Arlee Boys 51
It was another close one for Arlee on Feb. 7 against Florence but still a slightly encouraging result.
The Warriors started well with a 13-6 lead over Florence in the first quarter. Arlee led 25-18 going into halftime but a strong third quarter from the Falcons put this game away. Arlee’s offense could never catch up to Florence as the Falcons pulled away.
Arlee lost 60-51 to close the week out against Florence.
The split results this week put Arlee at 4-4 in 6B and firmly in fourth place in the district.
