Whitefish High School Theater’s spring production of “Robin Hood” was a dazzling adventure, complete with sword fights, an archery tournament and a daring castle escape.
The scene begins deep in the heart of Sherwood Forest, where the audience meets heroic outlaw Robin Hood (Eli Bergeson) and forest people, Friar Tuck (Noah Oaks), Little John (Walker Williams), Will Scarlet (Jasper Chisholm), and Maid Marian (Kalina Bruckerhoff).
Also joining the good folk of the woods on stage is Annabel (Nadia Reese), Mother Meg (Cody Blaize), Beth (Maya Kelley), and the wise old widow (London Jones).
The group of humble foresters rise against the evil elite royalty of Nottingham. Led by the scheming Lady Merle (Lillian Nelson), the Sheriff of Nottingham (Kenny Stone), wife of the sheriff (Cassidy Krack) and her quirky daughter Salome (Ava Hall), together they make for a sometimes foreboding, sometimes hilariously blundering group of villains.
On their side, there’s also soldier Kaspar (Gavin Sibson) who partakes in an archery competition, plus another solider (John Tollerson), and later, King Richard (Aiden Cubbage).
Surrounding the scene is an ensemble of fun characters (Jacob Cornutt, Jolie Minton, Syrcie Johnson, Iris McFadden), plus the strolling minstrel (Ann Galbraith), who showcases exceptional musical talent.
As the play nears its end, dramatic red lighting flashes across the stage as the actors enact a slow-motion battle scene.
The stage mastery puts the tech crew’s talents on full display. Lights shined thanks to Cyrus Carter, and spotlights followed the action thanks to Rose Callaway, Kate Sullivan, Chana Melnick and Bella Sluder. Meanwhile, Phoebe Stagg and E Ratchye ran the soundboard.
Costumes and props were crafted by Freya Hoge, Lili Hoge, Chana Melnick, E Ratchye, Arthur Mikita, Bella Sluder and Akaylynn Santischi.
Hair and makeup were done courtesy of Malorie Crane, Rose Callaway, Lauren Gibbs, and Dynalea Tomblin. Mosby Stiffler and E Ratchye were stage painters.
The team was led by stage manager Mosby Stiffler, assistant stage manager Johanna Perkins, and second assistant stage manager Freya Hoge.
Assisting with the audience’s front-of-house experience was Landon Crow, Akaylynn Santschi, Chana Melnick, Bella Sluder and Marlis Nargi.
During an intermission, the theater crew honored 15 seniors.
“It is a bittersweet moment to say goodbye as they finish their last performance with us,” wrote Director April Williams in the program. “My veteran actors and techies have shown wonderful comradery to our new recruits. The tech crew has been so committed to making this medieval show brilliant and authentic.”
Kudos also went to assistant director and fight-scene choreographer, Nancy Wilson, and Micah Groschupf, technical director.
