During its first meeting of the new year at 6 p.m. Tuesday, the Coeur d’Alene City Council will consider approving amendments to the city’s Firefighters Local No. 710 IAFF Agreement that would re-establish a division chief position and reorganize the fire department.

The proposals, submitted by Fire Chief Tom Greif, stem from the vacant EMS officer position and the upcoming retirements of two deputy fire chiefs, as well as Greif's, according to a staff report.

The deputy fire chief position will be reclassified as division chief, converted to a 40-hour captain’s wage, and eligible for overtime pay.

The EMS officer position would become one of the three divisional operations headed by a division chief.

According to the report, the deputy fire chief salary range would be $101,857 to $143,270; the EMS officer wage range would be $75,462 to $116,043l; and the proposed division chief pay range would be $82,867 to $127,462.

The re-organization is said to be more in line with fire service industry standards.

“We feel that a re-organization would also directly result in an increased interest by internal personnel during the recruitment process as it would provide a possible pathway back to line positions for personnel in the future,” Greif said in his proposal to the council.

Residential housing

Council will consider final plat approval for the seventh addition to The Trails development, which calls for 42 lots south of Prairie Trail, east of Huetter Road and north of Hanley Road. The developer, Coeur d’Alene Development, LLC, has installed all required public infrastructure. Various city departments approved them and found them ready to accept.

Oath of office

Mayor-Elect Dan Gookin and City Councilors Amy Evans, Kiki Miller and Kenny Gabriel will take the Oath of Office. All won their races in November's General Election.

The City Council meets at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Community Room.
