Polson boys, girls drop doubleheader against Beaverhead County

Polson was the lone Class A school this past week to have games starting the new year. Both the boys and girls dropped their games Saturday night against Beaverhead County in Dillon.

The girls fell 61-33 and the boys dropped their game 64-36.

The Lady Pirates were up first as they took on Class A state runner-ups. Although it is a new roster from last year, the Lady Beavers were still a force that Polson struggled to stop.

Beaverhead County started the game off strong with a 16-point first quarter, and continued to score double-digits in each quarter. Polson only managed one quarter with double-digit points. 

From there, the Lady Beavers never looked back with a strong 18-point third quarter eliminating some momentum that Polson had built up.

The Lady Pirates saw both junior Rylee Taylor-Jefferson and junior Hinkley Moss score 10 points, with Moss making just under half her attempts on the night. Taylor-Jefferson also posted four recorded steals.

The Polson boys had a similar night as the girls with defending boys Class A champion Beaverhead County Beavers. It has been an admittedly slow start for the reigning champs, but they managed to find one win to start the year.

Polson initially started strong by outscoring the Beavers 11-10 in the first quarter. However, a tempo change in the second quarter led to the Pirates only scoring three points compared to the Beavers’ 19 points.

While Polson managed two 11-point quarters after halftime, the Beavers remained steady by outscoring the Pirates by 13 points in the second half.

The girls finish the weekend with a 3-2 record after their loss and the boys drop to 3-3. They hope to rebound on Jan. 10 at home in Linderman Gym against the Hamilton Broncs.
