KELLOGG — Kellogg High School’s Marine Corps JROTC had another banner year with its annual Toys for Tots program. 

According to Senior Marine Instructor Maj. Craig Petersen, cadets collected and delivered more than 900 new toys, 175 books and several stocking stuffers to children who might not have received gifts otherwise. 

Petersen has led the Toys for Tots program in Kellogg for 11 years, and each year reinforces his belief that the effort benefits more than families in need. 

“I feel it’s important for the KHS JROTC students to see community support in action,” he said. “If we don’t take a proactive approach to supporting volunteer activities in your community, a lot of activities would not happen.” 

While toys remain the focal point, partnerships with local agencies and businesses, including Santa’s Workshop, have expanded the program. 

“Working alongside Santa's Workshop, not only do the children get toys, some also receive socks, shirts, stuffed animals and some families receive food vouchers for Christmas dinner,” Petersen said. “It’s a great team effort, and Toys for Tots are a small part of this. The real work is done by the ladies at Santa’s Workshop.” 

Petersen extended his thanks to the local businesses that support Toys for Tots.
