It was a short wrestling week for Lake County high schools, but a productive one that saw multiple wrestlers continue to shine with just under a month before state tournament time.

Mission/Charlo and Arlee wrestling teams took home impressive results at the Ted Kato Memorial Tournament on Jan. 24 in Thompson Falls.

Mission/Charlo boys, won the team title for this tournament with two first-place finishes and multiple other finishers.

Dakota Zeller topped the boys 157 weight class and Donovan Daniels won the boys 190 weight class.

Zeller dominated his first two matchups before a close one against Bonners Ferry (ID) wrestler Aiden Dodd. His first-place bout against Plains/Hot Springs wrestler Cody West was also a nailbiter but Zeller came out on top for the gold.

Daniels had a less precarious path as he swept all three of his opponents. He never dropped a point and won first place over Darby’s Marco Biesiot.

Joseph Cronk, Mark Ioli and Remington Wilson all finished third in their respective weight classes. Levi Dwelle finished fourth to round out the Mission/Charlo boys placers.

The girls were also successful, going second amongst all girls' teams in the tournament. It had four wrestlers place out of six wrestlers who went.

Emma Christopher, Meadow Ragen and Olivia Carnell all went second in their weight classes. Christopher was runner-up in the girls 120 weight class, Ragen finished second in the girls 155 weight class and Carnell earned second in the girls' 170-190 weight class.

The lone third-place finisher was Eva Carnell, who took the third podium spot in the girls 135-145 weight class.

Arlee only sent three wrestlers, with two taking home podium results. Ella Knoll won in the girls 135-145 weight class and Lilybelle Buffalo went third in the girls 130 weight class.

Knoll won her entire bracket and only dropped one point in her three matches. She took a decisive win over Hamilton’s Cadence McLaran for the first-place finish.

Buffalo lost two of her matches but won the most important one, securing a close 4-3 victory over Deer Lodge’s Mija Kilgore to get a third-place finish.

Polson sees victories in four-school showdown

The Pirates took a trip south on Jan. 22 to Frenchtown, where they faced off against Frenchtown, Corvallis and Butte Central.

While results for this event weren’t complete, Polson saw two wrestlers win in the mixer portion of the event. Those wrestlers were Koal Wardall and Dawson Nash.

In Polson’s only listed dual, Corvallis took a late win over the Pirates with a huge swing in the second-to-last match of the day.
