MOSES LAKE — Two Moses Lake men were arrested and booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of distributing narcotics following the search of a residence on Kathy Drive in Moses Lake on Thursday. Moses Lake Police Department Captain Jeff Sursely said the search turned up evidence that residents of the house may have been involved in illicit food stamp transactions.

“The search warrant culminated the drug and gun portion (of the investigation),” Sursely said. “The potential fraud (investigation) is ongoing.”

Sergio Herrera Jiron, 35, was booked on suspicion of possession or delivery of narcotics and trafficking food stamps, according to Grant County Jail records. Alberto Mendoza, 24, was charged with the possession or delivery of narcotics. A third person was released pending fraud charges, Sursely said in a press release.

Officers from the MLPD street crimes unit and Moses Lake Tactical Response Team found nine firearms and an undisclosed amount of cocaine in the residence, the press release said.

Herrera Jiron was still listed on the Grant County Jail inmate roster as of Saturday afternoon, with no bail set. Mendoza was no longer listed in custody.

At least one roundabout project is in its final phase, held over from fall 2025. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
