Lake Coeur d’Alene will serve as the backdrop for one of North Idaho’s largest Fourth of July celebrations Saturday.
Thousands are expected to gather for a historic fireworks display commemorating America’s 250th anniversary. The 20-minute show will begin between 9:30 and 10 p.m. It is expected to be one of the most spectacular in the event’s history and will feature more than 2,000 aerial effects and conclude with a grand finale of more than 300 fireworks.
"This Fourth of July is especially meaningful as our nation celebrates its 250th birthday," said Craig Brosenne, president of Hagadone Marine Group. "For generations, families have gathered around Lake Coeur d'Alene to celebrate Independence Day together, and we're proud to continue this treasured tradition alongside ICCU, The Coeur d'Alene Resort, Pyro Spectaculars North and our many community partners."
The highlight of the evening will be the launch of a custom-built 24-inch aerial shell, the largest fireworks shell ever launched in Idaho. Handcrafted in the United States, the historic shell will launch from its own dedicated barge approximately three-quarters of the way through the show.
The show is set up and run by Pyro Spectaculars North. Dalton Vaughan, the show producer, has run every Coeur d’Alene show since 2010.
“It's a passion, hobby and family business,” Vaughan said.
Vaughan and his team began preparing Thursday and will be “wiring up until they push off” Saturday. It will require two launch barges, including one dedicated exclusively to the record-setting shell.
Vaughan takes pride in his fireworks shows and tries to design them slightly differently between years.
“Coeur d’Alene stands out because of the bigger shells,” he said. “We got big booms here.”
Vaughan is excited to launch the 24-inch shell and assures watchers that they will know exactly when it will go off.
“We have it set up so it's not something you will have to look for,” he said.
The fireworks can be viewed from locations throughout Coeur d'Alene, with the best viewing available from the downtown Coeur d'Alene waterfront or by boat on Lake Coeur d'Alene. Guests looking for a premium viewing experience can still purchase tickets to The Coeur d'Alene Resort's Fourth Fest, featuring food, entertainment and front-row views of the show.
The organizers extend appreciation to Title Sponsor ICCU, Hagadone Marine Group, The Coeur d'Alene Resort, Rita Case and the many businesses, organizations, and community partners whose generosity and support have made this signature Independence Day tradition possible.
