McEuen Park will be filled with the unmistakable hiss of cracked beer cans, empty kegs and the clinks of glasses from 2 to 7 p.m. Saturday for the ninth annual Brewfest.

Featuring more than 20 local breweries and over 40 local brews, ciders and other drinks, the event put on by the Coeur d'Alene Downtown Association will have the greatest number of taps in its history.

“It’s cool to be a part of a Brewfest where it feels like truly part of the community,” said Brian Engdahl, owner and operator of Chalice Brewing.

Engdahl recently announced his Elder Spirit Saison, a brand-new brew, will be among the offerings.

“It has a little bit of elderflower and peppercorn in it to give it some spicy, earthy T notes,” Engdahl said.

He hopes his beer will give drinkers an experience.

“I really enjoy when somebody gets brought into a moment or is thinking about a place or something other than the beer," Engdahl said.

Dan and Chelsea Borgstrom, who own and operate Outpost Brewing, have been brainstorming and preparing for months to create their new Peach Sour brew.

Dan and Chelsea asked themselves: “Well, what do I want to eat in the summer on a really hot day?” To which they replied at the same time: “Peaches.”

Brewed with peach purée, Dan describes the brew as a “slightly tart” ale that is the “beautiful deep color of a peach.”

Dan said their approach was unique.

“This is the only beer we add fruit into,” he said.

They also wanted to give drinkers a different “cold peach” experience, saying that people usually think of peach as a warm or hot flavor, naming foods like canned peaches, peach cobbler or baked peaches.

Brewfest tickets start at $40 and include a commemorative pint glass and six 5-ounce tasting pours, with more pours available for purchase.
