POST FALLS — UpNorth Distillery and the Special Forces Association Chapter 43 hosted an intimate donation event Friday at the UpNorth Distillery in Post Falls.

Together, they made a $4,000 donation to the Idaho State Veterans Home in Post Falls, supporting programs and events that enhance the quality of life for resident veterans.

“They can do a lot of good things, I suspect my brothers and sisters in the unit will benefit,” said Tom Young, a veteran who lives at the Idaho State Veterans Home.

Young is one of the first residents to stay at the facility; veterans home employees called him “one of their beloved.”

“They’ve been very generous to me,” Young said.

During early May, UpNorth Distillery and the SFA Chapter 43 jointly released the “Special Forces Apple Brandy.” They said that a portion of every bottle sold would benefit the Idaho State Veterans Home.

Using the proceeds, each entity donated $2,000, totaling $4,000, to the home.

“It’s going to continue to enhance the quality of our residents' lives greatly. It means so much to them too,” said Kady Aamot of the Idaho State Veterans Home.

Programs like their upcoming harvest festival and Christmas celebration are what the donation will help fund.

“We want to make sure that every veteran, regardless of what’s happening in their family circumstances, that they have a joyful Christmas season,” said Amber Goodchild, the home administrator at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Post Falls.
