The Bridge, a new 56-unit townhome development, is under construction at 9848 Laylin Road in Hayden. Jimmy Brennan, the founder of Cornerstone, Inc. Custom Homes, along with his son, Levi, and partners Brenny and Chad Ross, created the project to provide attainable homeownership opportunities for residents.

“The American dream is that everyone wants the opportunity to own their own home,” Brennan said. “But, in recent years, I’ve seen many people finding themselves priced out of the community they call home.”

The 2-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom, 1,298-square-foot homes start at $379,900. The 3-bedroom, 2.5-bath, 1,350-square-foot units are $399,900. Each unit has a single-car attached garage.

Brennan, who has built custom homes for decades in Kootenai County, said the idea of building lower-cost homes stemmed from his involvement with the Union Gospel Mission’s recovery program.

“I saw people working hard to rebuild their lives yet struggling to find a path to homeownership,” he said. “I wanted to create that opportunity for working families who are the backbone of our community.”

The two-story homes feature an open concept with a breakfast bar, quartz countertops and luxury vinyl plank flooring. Some units will be ADA-accessible. The community will also include inviting outdoor spaces, such as a gazebo, scenic picnic areas, a large play area and a pickleball court.

The Bridge is a two-phase project, with 26 units in each phase.

“There are currently six finished units and eight that are framed and roughed in,” Brennan said. “We hope to have the other 12 framed up by late fall or early winter.”

Home buyers will get to select the color of the rug, tile, cabinet doors, baseboard trim and flooring. Brennan said they can also get financial help.

“We have a financial team and a real estate team that work together, which makes a huge difference,” Brennan said. “We can coach them along and show them how they’ll be able to do this now or in the future. We also offer builder incentives that can help pay closing costs and lower interest rates.”
