Madison Hecker’s five-year plan to bring back affordable kids clothing prices has come to fruition with the June 27 grand opening of Mad Baby Thrift and Consign Store at 5380 E. Seltice Way in Post Falls.

Madison said she’s been thrifting for years and kept seeing prices increase, so she decided to do something about it.

“As a mom of two, I realize that it costs a lot of money to have and raise children and get all their needs met with clothing and whatnot,” Madison said. “So, I’m bringing back the old thrift store prices for local families and giving them an opportunity to earn income by being able to consign with us as well.”

The Mad Baby Thrift and Consign will stock clothes of various sizes and other merchandise as well.

“We’ll have preemies all the way up to fourteen-sixteen, and we'll also have a maternity section,” Madison said. “And then of course, toys, shoes, bouncers, swings, seasonal items and have a little book nook corner, too.”

This is not her initial venture into the business world.

“I also own a cleaning company called Mad Clean,” Madison said. “And I’ve worked at a thrift store, too.”

Madison chose the location on Seltice Way because it's large enough to store her cleaning supplies and display all her thrift-store inventory. The price was right as well.

“I’m not made of money, and it didn’t cost an arm and a leg, so it all worked out well,” Madison said.

Madison has a staff of four: Rachel Murphy, assistant manager, Brooke Kettle, inventory specialist, and cashiers Kimmy Gildea and Mira Reasoner.

"They’re all rockstars — have done an amazing job helping me get to this point,” Madison said.

Madison said the thing she likes most about this type of business is being able to give back to the community and help people make income, “because this economy sucks.”

“I hear people struggling, especially the last couple of years, because prices have doubled, if not tripled,” Madison said. “I’m trying to help with some of that stress, and money-wise, with being a parent, I know how quickly kids outgrow their clothes.”

If all goes well, Madison said she’d eventually like to expand to other locations in North Idaho.

The Mad Baby Thrift and Consign hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Madison is working to get her website up and running. In the meantime, she can be reached at the store at 208-262-0121 or by email at [email protected]
