SOAP LAKE — Grant County Fire District 13 is fighting a wildfire near State Highway 17 and State Highway 282. The fire started as a result of a vehicle collision, according to the fire district.
“We appreciate all the resources that have been sent from across the county to assist,” the department wrote in a statement. “Air support is also assisting.”
The department said they are working with difficult terrain and strong winds. They are asking the public to be aware of and stay away from the fire as they work to get it under control.
If evacuations are needed, they will come from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, according to GCFD 13.
The National Weather Service released a statement early morning Tuesday warning of high winds of up to 45 miles per hour. As a result, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Grant County Fire Marshall’s Office released statements that Tuesday is a red flag warning day.
GCSO also reminded residents the county is currently in a burn ban, which began June 1.
“Many of the wildfires this year have been associated with careless burning by the public, and the public is being fined for such reckless burning behavior,” GCSO wrote in its statement.
