Level 2 evacuations called near Mattawa, clear as of 9 p.m. Monday

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office called for a level two evacuation for the following area near Mattawa due to a wildfire in the area.

Update: The evacuation was removed at 8:40 p.m. Monday after the fire was contained, according to GCSO.
MATTAWA — The Grant County Sheriff’s Office has called a level two fire evacuation (Get Set) in Mattawa near the area of Road U Southwest and Road 24.7 Southwest Monday at 6:30 p.m. Radio traffic reported the fire to be around 2 to 3 acres.
Level two means “get set” to leave at a moment's notice.
“Have an emergency kit,” wrote GCSO in a statement. “Know your plan and meeting place.”
The agency also recommends people with mobility or medical issues consider leaving. Those with livestock or large animals are recommended to move them to safety.

Based in Summerland, British Columbia, Okanagan Specialty Fruits operates a packaging plant in Moses Lake and an orchard in the Frenchman Hills near Othello. “Paul brings a valuable combination of agricultural experience, strategic thinking and more than a decade helping organizations improve complex investment and resource-allocation decisions,” Neal Carter wrote in the announcement. “I’m very pleased to have him bring that experience to OSF as we build the next phase of the company.”
