A Kalispell man arrested while vandalizing a neighbor's property in September received a quartet of suspended jail sentences in Flathead County District Court earlier this year.

Michael Kraig Anderson, 41, received the suspended six-month sentences in the county jail on Feb. 12 after pleading guilty to misdemeanor obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest as well as two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief.

Judge Paul Sullivan, who presided over the case, ordered the four sentences to run concurrently and directed Anderson to pay restitution.

Anderson initially pleaded not guilty to a felony count of criminal mischief and a slew of misdemeanor counts in the wake of his Sept. 30 arrest on the 300 block of East California Street in Kalispell. By February, though, he had taken a plea deal from prosecutors.

Kalispell Police officers crossed paths with Anderson while responding to a report of a dog running lose in the neighborhood about 7:54 a.m. Hearing a popping noise, officers found Anderson arguing with another man in a yard, according to court documents.

The officers later learned that the popping sound came from Anderson smashing the back window of another man's vehicle with a pool cue, court documents said.

Anderson ignored the officers' attempts at conversation and headed into his home. He reappeared shortly thereafter with a roughly 3-foot piece of wood in his hands before trying to get inside a neighbor’s house, court documents said.

Officers deployed less than lethal munitions on Anderson after he ignored their commands to stop, according to court documents.

Taken to the county jail, Anderson allegedly admitted wielding the pool cue after becoming angry with a neighbor. He also admitted throwing a rock through the window of a barn. Investigators also suspected Anderson had thrown a rock through the window of a different neighbor's vehicle earlier that morning, court documents said.
