A Kalispell man allegedly stuck a gun in the face of a homeless shelter resident while hurling a racial slur at him late last month.

Clint Dahl Dodge, 58, faces a felony count of assault with a weapon in Flathead County District Court following his Feb. 24 arrest on Second Street West in Kalispell. He is expected to be arraigned before Judge Danni Coffman on March 12.

Dodge, who is being held in the county jail with bail set at $50,000, has a bond modification hearing scheduled that same day.

The victim told Kalispell Police officers that he was using his phone while sitting in the driver's seat of his vehicle near the Second Street homeless shelter when he looked up to see Dodge pointing a black gun at him about 3:37 p.m., according to court documents.

"I am gonna get you," Dodge allegedly said, addressing the victim using a racial slur.

The victim retreated back inside the homeless shelter and phoned 911. Officers arriving at Dodge's 900 block Second Street home, located behind the homeless shelter, and set up a perimeter, court documents said. Then they directed Dodge to come out unarmed.

Dodge, who walked out with an empty leather holster on his belt, allegedly admitted to confronting the victim over loud music, but said he never aimed a firearm at him. After Dodge's arrest, officers pulled 9 mm cartridges from his pocket, court documents said.

A subsequent search of his home turned up a black 9 mm semiautomatic pistol, according to court documents.

In an affidavit filed in district court, the arresting officer wrote that Dodge and the victim had a history, including allegations of threats and disorderly conduct. The officer recalled speaking to Dodge in the past and counseling him.

Dodge allegedly told the arresting officer that he was "sick and tired of the bums and homeless causing a scene and being noisy and rude, along with harassing him."

Assault with a weapon is punishable by up to 20 years in Montana State Prison and a $50,000 fine.
