Crowds expected for Cane's opening

COEUR d'ALENE — The Idaho Transportation Department is joining forces with the Coeur d'Alene Police Department ahead of Tuesday's grand opening of Raising Cane's at the corner of Highway 95 and Neider Avenue.
“We're not sure exactly what to expect, but we'd rather plan for the worst and hope for the best. That way, no matter how the week unfolds, we're ready,” said Sgt. Jared Reneau with CDAPD.
The national chicken finger franchise is known for drawing large crowds when opening new locations. Just last week, hundreds of eager customers lined up well before the doors opened at a new Raising Cane's location in Birmingham, Ala.
"Raising Cane's is one of the most anticipated restaurant arrivals our area has seen in quite some time with a devoted fanbase that tends to show up in a big way for new locations," a press release from ITD read.
The Coeur d’Alene restaurant marks the first Cane’s location in North Idaho, the opening of which generated over 100 new jobs.
The restaurant will open at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and 20 grand opening attendees will be selected to win free Cane's for a year.
ITD and CDAPD will be monitoring traffic to ensure that any lines do not back up onto U.S. 95.
While excitement has been building for some time around the new dining option, some residents plan to wait a bit longer before joining the crowds.
"I’m excited for it," said Jillian Corwin. "My daughter would love to go to the grand opening, but we will wait until it calms down. Love me some Canes, but not enough patience to deal with a grand opening."
"I'll stay away for a week or so," said Kit Gonzales.
For other "caniacs," the lines will just be part of the experience.
"I'm going — I wouldn't miss it," said Pamela Harrison.
