If you’re in the market for new high-quality handmade products, Marketplace@Miles, 10374 N. Government Way in Hayden, offers a unique, diverse shopping experience featuring locally handcrafted merchandise.

The store, which opened last summer, stocks a variety of products from 50 vendors, including home decor, pottery and paints, jewelry, fused and stained glass, handbags, wallets, hand-poured soy waxed candles, laser-cut wood items, handcrafted soaps, blinged mosaic pictures and much more.

Tony and Susan Villelli, and Devin and Stacy Nagel are four of 15 owners of the business.

“We bought the property a while back and thought we might put storage units on it, but the city code wouldn't allow it,” Tony said. “So, Devin and I came up with the idea to build an affordable rental space for mom-and-pop businesses looking to take the next step up from doing business out of their garage or shop.”

Stacy was a general manager at JoAnn Fabrics for 20 years and got to know many local crafters and artisans who purchased materials for their small businesses. Several of them are now vendors at Marketplace@Miles, selling their merchandise.

“It was a perfect fit — a good mix of people. Many we already knew — are our neighbors,” Tony said. “Our plan to help them take the next step in their business is actually starting to show some promise.”

One of their tenants, Andrew and Tracy Begg, owners of Naturally Scotland, he said, is growing to the point that they are looking for their own location.

Devin describes Marketplace@Miles as a “high-end” location for people who make high-end homemade products.

Two factors, he says, contribute to a successful business.

“I believe they do,” he said. “Historically, there have been other places available that aren’t quite as nice. We really wanted a nice place to showcase nice products, kind of an upscale space for both. So, if you want to buy something or find a unique gift that is made here in Idaho, we want people to say, ‘I’ve got to go to that store up in Hayden.”’

Tony said Marketplace@Miles is more than a showroom for handcrafted items.

“It’s not just a store full of vendors selling their products; it’s a place for our friends and neighbors to work,” he said. “We could’ve made a lot more money redeveloping this property into something else. But this is something we felt was not only needed but welcomed it as an opportunity to really show our faith in the community.”

Stacy said the business is fast becoming the hub for handcrafted merchandise.

“People come in and want to engage with our community of artisans,” she said. “Many come in a couple of times a week to see if there is something new. We have some amazing artists who make fascinating stuff that people may want for Mother’s Day presents.”

The other owners of Marketplace@Miles are Jeramie and Angela Terzulli, Tom and Ashley Villelli, Jeff and Kellie Hanna, Chad and Melissa Burd, Illya and Tony Dotson, and Rob Franc.

Marketplace@Miles is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 208-719-0005 or visit www.marketplaceatmiles.com for more information.
