For awhile there, it looked like the Whitefish- Columbia Falls baseball game last week would come down to the wire.
The Wildcats had stranded a slew of baserunners in the early innings and Whitefish was doing just enough right to put a couple runs on the board to take an early lead.
Then the Cats got down to business, putting up six runs in the top of the fifth to put the game away.
All told, Columbia Falls had 17 hits in the contest.
The Wildcats fifth inning onslaught started with a double by Wyatt Dodson. Zeke Dunn drove in Dodson on a sacrifice hit to tie the game at 2. Caden Fisher walked, and then Jaxson Cadwell hit a triple with two on board to drive in a couple of runs and Lincoln Fisher hit a single to drive in Cadwell. With Fisher on base, Jett Pitts hit a double to drive him in.
Pitts had four hits on five at bats and got the win on the mound as well, going six innings. He struck out six and gave up a couple of runs. Tayvin Beach got the save.
On Friday, the Cats walloped Noxon/Thompson Falls, 10-0, scoring six runs in the fourth inning,
Zeke Dunn got the win on the mound, in a game that was called after five innings, He struck out eight.
On Monday, the Cats got back at Lincoln County, dropping Eureka 8-1 on the road as Nico Young pitched 5 1/3-innings of no-hit ball and Cadwell had three RBIs for the game and Wyatt Dodson hit a homer in the top of the second to drive in Tristan Victor to start off a four-run inning.
The Cats added two in the top of the fourth and a couple of insurance runs in the top of the seventh to ice the game. The win was important, as Eureka beat the Cats in Columbia Falls a couple of weeks ago.
The Cats are now 10-3 on the season.

The rain is beneficial, however. Southwest Montana has been in an extended drought and should see about an inch of rain from the storm. Summer rains are also critical in preventing wildfires.
