I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. I am a servant to my cat, Frankie, who yes, will eat anything and everything in sight … even wedding cookies. | May 6, 2026 3:45 PM

SANDPOINT — The 75th annual National Day of Prayer is being held Thursday, May 7, at Farmin Park, bringing together members of the Sandpoint community for a powerful time of worship and prayer.

"This year’s gathering is especially significant, as it marks the first student-led National Day of Prayer service in Sandpoint — highlighting a rising generation stepping forward in leadership, faith, and service," said Wil Bush, who serves as the youth pastor at Harvest Valley Worship Center.

The National Day of Prayer gathering will begin with a worship service from 4-4:30 p.m., followed by a focused time of prayer from 4:30–5:30 p.m.

Centered on the theme verse, “Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!” (1 Chronicles 16:24, ESV), the event aims to unite the community in prayer for local, national, and global needs while celebrating God’s faithfulness, Bush said.

In addition to the main gathering, several Prayer Week events will take place in partnership with National Day of Prayer, offering multiple opportunities for the community to engage.

Events include:

• Worship night — Wednesday, May 6, at 6 p.m. at New Life Church

• Student prayer gathering — Thursday, May 7, at 6:30 a.m. at the Sandpoint City Beach pavilion;

• Evening worship night — Thursday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Harvest Valley Worship Center

These events are designed to create space for unified worship, intercession, and community-wide participation across generations.

"All are invited to attend and be part of this meaningful time as Sandpoint joins communities across the nation in prayer," Bush said.

Congress established the National Day of Prayer in 1952. This observance is currently held the first Thursday each May when all Americans are encouraged to exercise their religious freedom by gathering publicly to worship and pray.
