The North Idaho Veterans Stand Down is Saturday at the Kootenai County Fairgrounds this Saturday.
The event is expected to bring in around 800 veterans and their families. Over 100 volunteers and 115 service providers will be there to provide services like medical, counseling, benefits and advocacy, employment opportunities, legal services, haircuts and more. Veterans will also walk out with a couple bags of free groceries.
Organizer Debbi Nadrchal believes that veterans are the most underserved population in the country.
“This should not be,” she said. "This is our way of giving back to them.”
There are around 20,000 vets in North Idaho and about 10% of them are homeless or struggling with housing.
The Stand Down operates on donations,. Everyone involved with the organization is a volunteer and the NIVSD operates and helps veterans year-round.
"Anything we can do to help veterans, that's what we're here for." said Nadrchal.
The event will run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to veterans from all branches of service.
