A Kalispell man arrested after crashing his vehicle while fleeing police last summer later received a pair of suspended sentences in Flathead County District Court.
Prosecutors brought Sevin Colin Kawulok, 19, up on felony counts of criminal endangerment and negligent vehicular assault as well as misdemeanor counts of fleeing from a peace officer and driving with a suspended or revoked license, following the July 13, 2025, chase. Kawulok pleaded not guilty at his July 30 arraignment, but struck a deal with prosecutors in October.
In exchange for guilty pleas to negligent vehicular assault and fleeing from a peace officer, prosecutors agreed to recommend he receive a suspended five-year sentence for the former and a suspended one-year sentence for the latter.
Judge Amy Eddy stuck to the terms of the deal at Kawulok's Jan. 22, 2026, sentencing. She ordered the two sentences to run concurrently and gave Kawulok credit for 78 days of time served. While she waived court fines and fees, Eddy ordered Kawulok to pay restitution.
Flathead County Sheriff's Office began pursuing Kawulok's gold Chrysler Town and Country minivan about 12:23 a.m. after spotting him doing double the posted speed limit on Kuhns Road, according to court documents. Although Kawulok allegedly fled, the chase came to an end when he struck a Ford pickup truck.
Deputies described Kawulok as boasting bloodshot eyes and dilated pupils following the wreck. Under questioning, he admitted using methamphetamine and trying to evade deputies, court documents said.
One of the two passengers in Kawulok's minivan suffered a broken foot in the crash, according to court documents.
