Hundreds of people filled nearly three blocks of Fifth Street on Wednesday, browsing more than 50 booths on the opening day of the downtown farmers market.

"You couldn’t ask for better weather,” Hayden resident Jerry McIntosh said. “Plenty of sunshine and good food to eat.”

The offerings included handcrafted artworks and tattoos, local eats, fresh flowers, fresh-baked pretzels, gluten-free breads, espresso and Huckleberry and cinnamon rolls.

The little goaty goat farm was one of the more popular booths.

“We’ve raised Nigerian Dwarf Goats for six years out in Wolf Lodge. We’ve been in other markets, but this is our first time here,” Angelica Griebel said. “We have 25 adult goats and had 37 kid goats born this spring.”

Angelica’s husband, Brett, said they milk the goats twice a day.

“They produce about 12 gallons,” he said. “Nigerian goat’s milk has double the butter fat, so it’s much sweeter than cow’s milk.”

Other popular booths on a sunny afternoon were Simply Delicious, which makes authentic Bavarian pretzels, and the big pan Paella, owned by Chef Emy McNosky and husband Nick.

“We are a catering company specializing in authentic Spanish Paella,” Emy said.

The dish they were making looked like it could feed a couple of dozen people.

Courtney & Company provided the music on opening day. The market is open Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. through Sept. 2.
